This summer, UCEC welcomed John Beattie in the newly-created position of Operations Manager for Production. John brings a strong background in electrical controls, industrial automation and electrical distribution to our shop.
John’s experience started in 1984 with a wireman position at Western Panel and then later Systems Engineering. He moved to Amwest Control, where over the years, John moved into positions such as wiring, purchasing and management, eventually becoming part owner. After selling his interest in Amwest, John started his own business wiring control panels. Later, he was a sales engineer at Square D before making the move to UCEC.
John is part of the “bench strength” CEO Mark Inboden referenced in a recent blog post. The new Operations Manager position allows Evan Coulter to move into the role of VP of Business Operations.
“With UCEC’s many products and customers, there needs to be a dedicated focus on managing operations,” John says. “This new position allows Mark and Evan to take their skillset and focus on customer relations and business development.”
For his first 90 days, John is learning UCEC processes and procedures. He’s also getting up to speed on the various industries we work with including oil and gas and food and beverage.
John calls the fabrication and wiring of control panels a “work of art.” He draws on the parts of his personality that have served his career well: meticulousness and creativity. “The craftsmanship that goes into control panels isn’t something you learn overnight. It requires detail and skills such as deciphering a schematic. There’s an art to it.”
Away from the shop, John and his wife Jerri are active members of Arvada, where they live (and where UCEC is headquartered). He enjoys gym fitness, downhill skiing, hiking and mountain biking. The couple travels frequently, with Panama, Greece and Iceland next on their bucket list.
